Each lesson at Pony Power involves a team effort – the instructor, a volunteer "lead walker," a volunteer "side walker" and the horse all have a role to play in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all of our riders.
A side walker provides physical support to the rider during a lesson, helping them maintain a balanced position on the horse. Following the instructor’s direction, a side walker will often play an active role in helping riders complete various exercises, such as stretching, counting and reaching.
The lead walker is responsible for leading the horse during a lesson. Following the instructor’s direction, the lead walker will help, as needed, in steering and maintaining the horse’s speed. Volunteers will only be assigned as lead walkers if they have previous horse experience.
We are also looking for farm crew/ garden volunteers to help with various tasks around the farm. We are in immediate need of weekend farm crew volunteers, who are 18 or older, have horse experience, and can work Saturdays and/or Sundays 1-3pm. Contact Sue at firstname.lastname@example.org or 201-934-1001 if interested.
