our Campus

Pony Power Therapies is located in the Ramapo Mountains in Mahwah, NJ, near Routes 17 and 287, easily accessible to residents of Bergen, Morris and Passaic counties in New Jersey and Rockland and Westchester counties in New York.

Our 13-acre barrier-free, fully accessible campus is home to 22 horses and ponies, chickens, sheep, goats, pigs, bees and 3 full-time, on-site caretakers.

To create this campus, we wanted our approach to be as green and environmentally friendly as possible. With the help of specialized consultants, we’ve employed regenerative land management practices to improve the stewardship of the land Pony Power occupies. For example, incorporating concepts such as rain gardens and vegetated swales and berms to manage rainwater run-off will actually reverse damage and restore the environment.

These improvements have been made possible through a capital campaign. For more information on getting involved, please call 201-934-1001.

Thank you for this special place where everyone has the same opportunities for growth and healing.

Outdoor Ring and Barn

To unite our 13 acres, we installed ADA-compliant paths made of compacted stone dust, a wheelchair friendly surface. The well-lit paths originate near the main parking lot on the north side of the property and lead families by our goats, pigs and chickens over to the main barn.

Most individual participants meet their instructor outside our main barn for lessons where there is a fully paved accessible parking lot and ADA-compliant bathroom. Connected to the main barn is a wheelchair-accessible classroom/waiting area and an indoor arena with a dust-free footing. Most of our herd has individual stalls in the main barn when not turned out in paddocks located around the farm.

The outdoor ring is our largest riding arena and is equipped with overhead lighting. From that ring, participants can access a sensory trail that circles the red barn. Made of compacted stone dust, like our paths, the trail gives riders not only a change in surface and view but a difference in plane that’s achieved through gentle inclines and declines.

The red barn has a classroom space and features an extra-wide aisle, which accommodates some of our school groups and our after-school program, All HANDs In. Another wheelchair-accessible bathroom is located in the nearby farmhouse.

Green Farmhouse and Office

The green farmhouse serves as offices as well as a waiting area for families here for the after-school program and summer programs. The ground floor is wheelchair friendly and accessible using the ramp leading to the front porch. The space is available for rental to community groups and corporations interested in staff development and team-building opportunities at Pony Power.
